Introduction
Hirekal is a video interview platform for recruiting teams. Candidates record structured answers in the browser on their own time - Video interviews in docs, overview on the main site. Your team watches those responses, leaves notes, and shortlists who deserves live interview time - without booking a calendar hold for every applicant.

What Hirekal does
Hirekal separates asking from watching. You define structured questions once; every candidate answers the same prompts on video. Recruiters and hiring managers review recordings question by question in one console.
In the product, a job is the role plus its video questions, apply link, pipeline, and settings. Documentation sometimes calls that question set the interview - it is not a separate object in the console.

Problems Hirekal addresses
First-round hiring still looks like this for many teams: a calendar invite before anyone has heard the candidate explain their work, the same introductory questions on every screening call, and live interview slots spent on people who could have been reviewed asynchronously. Agencies often forward a CV alone when a short structured video would make the submission stronger.

The live-first trap
Teams that screen live-first usually run into the same friction:
- Scheduling before substance - Recruiters book time before knowing whether the candidate can explain their work clearly.
- Repeated prompts - Every screener asks slightly different opening questions, so comparisons drift.
- Calendar congestion - Popular hiring weeks fill with first-round calls that could happen on video first.
- Thin agency submissions - Clients decide on keywords when a recorded answer would show communication and role fit.
- Candidate friction - Applicants rearrange schedules for a call that mostly repeats what a structured async round could capture.
The Hirekal approach
Hirekal flips the order: ask once, watch anytime, schedule live selectively.
| Pain with live-first | What Hirekal does instead |
|---|---|
| Calendar hold for every applicant | Share one apply link; candidates record on their schedule |
| Different questions per screener | Same structured question set for every candidate in the cohort |
| Review only during or right after a call | Review question-by-question in the console when your team is ready |
| CV-only packs for agency clients | Profile, resume, and video answers in one submission |
| Extra tools or accounts for candidates | Browser recording with a device check - no Hirekal account required |
Review substance first
Hirekal is built so you hear how candidates explain their work before you offer live interview time - not the other way around.
